Thermal Transfer Overprinters & Coders
Yanjie UCS Thermal Transfer Coder

Applied Industrial Printing supplies Thermal Transfer Coders that are developed by the Yanjie engineering company. These machines feature wide format printing that are particularly efficient for intermittent applications. Yanji’s UCS9 offers you one of the largest print areas available on the market.

Thermal coding, or thermal transfer overprinting (TTO), makes its marking without any ink or toner. This form of transfer printing uses heat in order to create an image. A durable option, thermal transfer coding has increased in popularity in many different industries. Providing companies with a more user-friendly, quieter and cheaper option for printing.

Thermal transfer overprinters are designed specially to function on flexible surfaces. This makes them an ideal solution for thinner materials like paper or light cardboard. Thermal transfer overprinting (TTO) was created to replace traditional analog printing methods like hot stamp and roller coders. TTOs are uniquely versatile in the amount of text they can print. Lines of code can be increased or characters easily added without any mechanical intervention. No changes are required to the unit itself. This offers the operator a convenient way to change printed codes between different SKUs.

Unlike its predecessors, TTOs require very little time to get going. No longer waiting for the long warm up times of hot rollers, TTOs can start printing production within one minute of powering on. Giving you a quick and convenient solution to your printing needs while saving you costs.

TTOs use a printhead with a ceramic coating and a thermal transfer ribbon. This allows a printing resolution of 12 dots per mm. Giving you a high resolution code that’s easy to read. They require direct contact to print. This is because, as the name suggests, the marking is done through a contact transfer process. The imprint of your code is made directly onto the surface of the material when contact is made and heat is applied. The thermal transfer ribbons you select will determine the colour and quality of the final transferred image. Different ribbons are suitable for different applications.

What are the benefits of thermal printing?

  • Low Cost
  • Low waste with ribbon used rather than ink
  • Continuous production flow
  • A high quality of print
  • Fast production with increased uptime
  • Real time data with integrated digital technology
